The Washington Capitals center and his team are looking forward to playing in the Eastern Conference Final.
Ovechanks condition has been described as a “pelvis-pelvic imbalance.”
He had to undergo surgery on the pelvic bone and was forced to miss the last three games.
Ovens doctor told NBC Sports that Ovechnks condition was a combination of osteoporosis and gynecomastia, a condition that causes a protruding bone that causes discomfort to the pelvis.
The Capitals have been without Ovechukk since the first game of the NHL season, in which he was ruled out for a month.
Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said in a statement that he is “extremely disappointed in the outcome of this situation” and plans to continue to speak with Oveckyns family and friends to determine if further action is needed.
Ocechkin’s surgery was performed by Dr. David Wertheim, who was the first surgeon to perform Ovechinks procedure, according to ESPN.
He said that the injury is consistent with osteoproportional imbalance and that it is a “perfect fit for the Capitals.”
Ovekkin has been on a tear during the playoffs and is currently on pace to set career highs in goals (24), assists (38) and points (80).
He has scored nine goals and nine assists in the playoffs.
